Community Grant, Post-Adoption Support

Adopting a shelter pet can come with challenges, and Aransas County Animal Care is here to help.

Thanks to support from Community Shop • Rockport TX through their recent grant award, Adoption Coordinator Latisha Cross has been able to bring her vision to life by creating adoption care packages for new pet owners adopting through the Aransas County Animal Care Services facility.

These thoughtfully assembled care packages are filled with pet retention resources designed to help new pet parents better understand the transition-to-home process. Resources include helpful guides such as the 3-3-3 Rule, basic command training, housetraining tips, and other educational materials focused on successful pet ownership.

ACO Cross has also included a Certificate of Adoption, species-specific toys, and a complimentary collar or slip leash to help new adopters get started.

ACO Cross believes this care package will provide the post-adoption support many families need to better understand their pets and reduce the number of returned animals due to common, temporary, and manageable behaviors often seen in shelter pets.

Sometimes pets simply need patience, understanding, and time while they navigate the uncertainties of a new environment.
